The Guide to Woman’s Fitness in Charleston

Finding your fitness home in Charleston isn’t just about choosing a workout—it’s about discovering your people, your rhythm and the space where you feel most alive. Over the past few months, I sweated, stretched and danced my way through dozens of classes across the Lowcountry. I’ve melted into restorative poses in historic spaces, climbed onto Pilates towers in narrow Charleston single houses and found my flow everywhere from waterfront studios to heated rooms with disco balls overhead. This guide showcases women-focused and women-forward fitness options that go beyond the typical gym experience—places where community matters as much as the workout, where instructors know your name and where showing up for yourself means showing up for something bigger. Whether you’re seeking challenge, connection or simply a place where you feel seen and celebrated, Charleston’s diverse fitness scene has something for every woman ready to move.

ACE

695 Meeting Street, Charleston

Founder Anneclaire Nelson brings 20 years of professional dance and training expertise to this intimate, heated studio. I took a beginner dance cardio breakdown on a freezing day and stepping inside felt like entering another world. With only six of us in class, it felt deeply personal. The signature Dance Sweat and Sculpt formats work in harmony to awaken your body and build lasting strength through rhythm and breath. Movement here is emotional, expressive and deeply intentional.

Angel’s Pick: Most Fun Class I Attended

BE WILD YOGA

9304 Bowen Pier Drive, Hanahan

Owner Kelsey Harrison—a 500-hour E-RYT with 3,000-plus classes taught, founder of Get Wild Retreats and co-founder of LiveWildFest—creates strength, exhilaration and spaces with moves I’d never tried. The intimate space with its vibrant “wild” mural invites students to explore vulnerability and return to their truest selves through inclusive, soulful yoga experiences. CP

THE FLOW CO YOGA AND WELLNESS

1175 Folly Road, Suite C, James Island

This complete wellness sanctuary offers heated flow classes plus infrared sauna, full body red light therapy, compression therapy and cryotherapy. It’s the kind of place where you can push yourself in class, then recover and restore all under one roof. CP

FREEDOM STUDIO

568 Belle Station Boulevard, Mt. Pleasant

Owner Julia Powell radiates infectious energy in this Christian-focused studio. I took a “fire” class where lights turn red during high-intensity movements. Julia’s genuine kindness creates an atmosphere where challenge meets encouragement and her thoughtful thank-you packet after my first class showed this community, not just business.

2026 Wappoo Drive, James Island

Walking in transported me to Costa Rica. I took Yin + Reiki + Massage: A Blissful Reset, holding poses over four minutes while licensed massage therapist Nate Bender and his team offered hands-on adjustments and therapeutic massage. The incredible sound system, peaceful yet tribal vibe and combination of Yin stillness with intentional touch created one of the most restorative experiences I’ve had. CP

Angel’s Pick: Class That Feels Like a Tropical Retreat

THE LONGEVITY CLUB

163 Rutledge Avenue, Charleston

“This fitness club feels like a spa” lives up to its reputation. The gorgeous, all-white space exudes unpretentious luxury. As I attended a breathwork and meditation class designed to release tension and improve sleep, I went into an actual trance. Longevity is celebrating 10 years and opening Solcara Health, a functional medical space with concierge care packages.

MODERN MOVEMENT

834 Foundational Street, Suite 102, Charleston

Owner Johsue Newman created a luxurious hot yoga studio in Point Hope that overlooks Clemens Ferry Road yet feels eerily peaceful. The ModStrength & Weights class challenged me perfectly—heated just enough to work without overwhelming. This locally owned boutique studio prioritizes an inclusive, non-judgmental space where community thrives. CP

PARADISO

4401 McCarthy Street, North Charleston

Charleston’s premier family-friendly social club features a newly renovated wellness center with 30-plus monthly classes, personal trainers from Fly Dog Fitness and a heated and cooled pool. Coach Laurie Henderson’s HIIT and strength classes push limits, while Mandi Mills brings infectious spunk to yoga.

PEACH LAB

69 Wentworth Street, Suite 105, Charleston

This multi-location studio focuses exclusively on lower-body workouts through targeted strength training in a chic, Instagram-worthy space with a Clean Slate Eats smoothie bar. Instructors are hands-on with corrections to ensure proper form. The vibe is polished and professional—perfect if you prefer structured fitness experiences. CP

PLATFORM – A CONSCIOUSNESS STUDIO

920 Houston Northcutt Boulevard, Mt. Pleasant

The most zen-like experience in Charleston. The intimate space filled with meditation props was so profoundly calming I almost fell asleep during slow flow yoga. Platform specializes in meditation with headset options, special classes and sound baths—the perfect antidote to Charleston’s fast pace. CP

Angel’s Pick: If You Need Some Relaxation

Amy Parker offers some incredible outdoor locations for Qigong

QIGONG WITH AMY PARKER

Alhambra Hall & American Gardens

Amy Parker teaches medical qigong, an ancient energy movement practice where slow rhythmic movements feel like quiet streams nourishing your entire being. “No pain, no pain,” Amy reminded us—a refreshing departure from typical mantras. The waterfront setting felt almost sacred. Amy also teaches free classes Thursdays at 10 a.m. in American Gardens by the Gibbes Museum of Art.

Angel’s Pick: The Class Everyone Should Try at Least Once

REVFIT STUDIO

4428 Spruill Avenue, Unit A, North Charleston

Larsyn Cross created a full-spectrum, female-focused fitness studio with small group strength training, sculpting, mobility and restorative movement. The play area for kids and mommy-and-me classes make fitness accessible for mothers. The supportive community empowers women at all fitness levels, with offerings that support the unique design of the female body.

THE SWEAT SANCTUARY

40 Archdale Street, Suite B, Charleston

This spot near the Market feels like working out inside a Charleston single house—narrow and charming, with mirrors displaying uplifting messages. I took Tower Pilates, which became my favorite for its unique approach, working areas I didn’t know needed attention. Days later, I was still pleasantly sore. The intimate studio shares space with Hot Girl Cycle Club.

Angel’s Pick: Best Overall Unique Class Working Whole Body

THE WORKS / THE WORKS CYCLE / THE WORKS RENEW

Multiple Locations

The dark room, energetic music and giant disco ball create pure magic during my Cycle class. The Works blends Vinyasa yoga, cardio, meditation, plyometrics sculpting and core work—heated to 90 degrees seasonally. Classes use body work to get to heart work, creating connection from body to body, heart to heart, soul to soul. (See our business profile for founder Sarah Frick’s full story.) CP

TITUS FITNESS

487 W Butternut Road #2, Summerville

Through their nonprofit Unified Strength, Titus Fitness is doing transformative work in the Lowcountry by empowering individuals within the special needs and disabled veterans community. They provide access to physical fitness and wellness resources through group classes, personalized training sessions and gym memberships scholarships, creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every participant can achieve their health and fitness goals. Their mission extends far beyond physical fitness—they’re enhancing mental and emotional well-being while promoting independence, confidence and a profound sense of belonging for those who have served our country or face unique challenges. The goals in training include pushing physical and mental boundaries, competition perpetration and elevating overall fitness for stronger independent living. It’s fitness with purpose, community with heart and a reminder that wellness spaces should be accessible to everyone, regardless of ability or circumstances.

This assignment brought me joy. I hope this guide helps you find your starting point. ClassPass or Mind-body are excellent for exploring variety—try many studios before committing.

Angel together with Sarah Frick from The Works after one of her signature workouts.

With all these incredible places, there’s no place like The Works for me. I started taking classes with owner Sarah Frick and Meggie Austin years ago. When Sarah opened The Works, I was there. When she opened Mount Pleasant closer to where I lived, I officially joined. But I’ll end by saying: whatever you do, wherever you go, find your people. Find the place where you feel seen, challenged and held. In the vase of The Works, since classes are part physical, part mental and part emotional, it can literally save your life. It saved mine. When you find the place that’s right for you, it can do the same. The. workout matters, but the community you build around it matters even more.
