Dedication and tenacity are the constant drives for Dawn Robinson Shaw and her local business, Mount Pleasant Maids. Servicing the entire tri-county area with rapid word-of-mouth growth, her staff is ready to work for you.
Shaw, originally from Illinois, is a well-traveled businesswoman whose background includes studying in Madrid and social work in England for more than a decade. It was through her social work and visiting homes for the elderly that she first noticed the need for proper cleaning.
“I think that was my first thought about a maid service, but it wasn’t until I was back in the United States and listening to others’ frustrations at playgroups that I really decided to go for it,” said Shaw, a single mother of three young children.
Mount Pleasant Maids began with Shaw working for neighbors, friends and people in the playgroup. “It was then I hired someone and slowly kept adding. It was not easy in the beginning, and there was a time I wondered if I would ever stop cleaning toilets.”
Today, nearly two dozen people work for Mount Pleasant Maids from Summerville to the beaches and everywhere in between. “Each worker is an independent contractor. They are all honest, reliable, trustworthy and hardworking with no drama,” shared Shaw. “We will always go together to meet new clients prior to the first cleaning to make sure we are all aware of expectations.”
Mount Pleasant Maids is a team that prides themselves on thorough cleanings, timeliness, dependability and a little bit more — including off-site laundering, windows, carpet cleaning, as well as limited shopping for toiletries.
“We have had situations where some of our rental sites need new linens or a coffee pot, and we are there for them,” stated Shaw. “We will also help stock food in advance.”
The team is also available for many last-minute situations, whether it is for a holiday party or unexpected guests arriving at your home.
“I’m grateful to be a small-business owner in Mount Pleasant and am thankful we have made it this far from where I started my dream many years ago. We will continue to grow and continue serving the community,” finished Shaw, who believes in giving back and supporting local charities, events and even cleaning for people who are sick or hospitalized. “I would not be where I am today without my girls who have stood by me through the last few years. I am thrilled to be celebrating our 10-year anniversary.”
