My name is Allie Wilson. I am 10 years old and I have been in Girl Scouts for four years, starting as a Daisy. I am currently a junior girl scout in Troop #3207 in Summerville.
Girl Scouts teaches me many things about being friendly, helpful, courageous and strong. It encourages me to make the world a better place and use resources wisely. It teaches me about leadership, self-confidence and community service.
One of the most important things about being a girl scout is learning business skills by selling cookies each year to my community, family and friends. Selling cookies is like owning my own business. Through my cookie business, I learn about how to set sales goals, learn about the products we are selling, how to talk to customers, how to manage inventory, how to calculate sales totals, how to count money, how to review sales reports and how to create marketing messages. I recently earned my cookie team badge by learning how to work with others in my cookie sales team, understanding the different roles in business and calculating how many units we need to sell to reach our goals.
My favorite part of the business is learning how to talk to other people. By being a cookie entrepreneur, I learn business and leadership skills that are valuable in life and will be important in any future career.
