Island Candles: Where Creativity Meets Community

This image displays Jennifer Taylor holding a candleIf your creative side is seeking a soothing evening filled with reggae music and coastal vibes, Island Candles invites you to an unforgettable, hands-on experience unlike anything else in the Lowcountry. Their candle-making parties aren’t your typical workshop—they’re a true escape where you slip away from the world and emerge with a creation to call your own.

Walking into Island Candles feels like gathering at a friend’s coastal bungalow. The atmosphere is equally soothing and inspiring, and guests are guided through a 90-minute workshop to create their own nontoxic candle. Owner Jenny Taylor uses a fun learning mechanism, renaming typical candle-making supplies to help guests get their “boats”—wick holders—ready for a “hurricane” of warm wax mixed with scents and colors.

Quality Without Compromise

What sets Island Candles apart is their commitment to hypoallergenic products for the cleanest burn possible. They use 100% organic soy and beeswax with no fillers, nontoxic scents and cotton wicks. “We don’t cut corners on the quality of products to make our candles,” Taylor says.

Building Community Through Creativity

These candle parties aren’t just about candles—they’re about community. “I can’t count how many times I’ve seen bonds and friendships form out of these public classes,” Taylor says. “Usually, most are strangers when they walk in and then develop lasting connections by the end of the class.”

Express your creative side by choosing a signature scent, adding shimmering mica flakes and customizing with beeswax decorative toppers like shells, ocean creatures and succulents.

New James Island Location

Island Candles recently opened at 1230 Folly Road on James Island, featuring a workshop for public and private parties plus a retail area with candles and local artists’ products.

Ready to host your own party? You need just five people total for a private candle-making experience, perfect for bachelorettes, birthdays or corporate gatherings. For more information, visit islandcandleschs.com
