Glow Into Spring: Local Beauty Experts Share Their Secrets

This image displays people holding up products created by “She Biology”This spring, achieve a fresh, glowing complexion with actionable tips from top local health and beauty experts who know exactly how to help Charleston women transition from winter skin to spring radiance.

THE DAILY FOUNDATION

To expedite the shift from dull winter skin to a dewy spring finish, Marianna Ross—founder of Soulshine Aesthetics and aesthetic injector, CRNA and APRN—recommends establishing a consistent daily routine.

The first step is cleansing to remove debris, dirt and grime. Old makeup or SPF sitting on the skin’s surface clogs pores and prevents your skin from breathing. Next, apply an antioxidant or vitamin C-based serum. Ross recommends Skinceuticals or her Soulshine brand to prevent collagen breakdown from sun exposure. Then apply a lightweight hydrator or moisturizer to lock in hydration.

Sunscreen is the most critical step, Ross says. “As 90% of premature aging comes from sun exposure, look for a professional-grade brand—such as ColorScience, which is also a makeup line—that has a higher quality of ingredients. Make sure to use a sunscreen that is mineral-based to completely block the sun’s rays and energy, rather than a chemical-based product that may prevent a burn but can still result in inflammation.”

BEYOND THE SUN

Sun exposure isn’t the only culprit affecting your skin. Phone and computer screens accelerate aging as well. To combat the effects of device use, Ross suggests wearing SPF every day and when going outside, wearing a hat and reapplying sunscreen regularly. She also recommends increasing water intake to stay properly hydrated from within.

IN-OFFICE TREATMENTS FOR ELEVATED GLOW

Professional treatments can take your spring glow to the next level. “If you’re thinking of having a chemical peel, make sure to do it in February or March to clear the way for spring,” Ross advises. “Alternatively, the MOXI Prejuvenation laser is safe to do in the summer since it works under the skin to give a beautiful and filterless glow with little to no downtime for healing. The procedure is safe for all skin types, as are our facials. Adding lymphatic massage also gives relief to those who suffer from springtime allergies while depuffing the face.”

A SKINCARE-FIRST APPROACH

For Chinenyem Nwadigwu, WBENC-certified owner of She Biology Skincare Corp., the best makeup is skin that has been cared for first. Her mornings begin with the Retinol Repair Hemp Face Wash. “The hemp-derived ingredients help calm sensitivity and inflammation, while the retinol is carefully balanced—refining texture without irritation,” she says. After cleansing, Nwadigwu hydrates with Superfood Rosewater Essence. “Composed with tremella mushroom and aloe vera, the essence restores hydration, balances the skin’s pH and helps regulate oil production,” she explains. Next comes the Rich Skin Face Serum. “Rich in antioxidants, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and essential fatty acids, it plumps the skin, supports elasticity, brightens the complexion and soothes inflammation.”

Her routine is completed with a lightweight, noncomedogenic moisturizer—the Repair Retinol Face Cream—and an SPF 40 or higher, which she reapplies every two hours. At night, she incorporates Shani Darden treatments alongside She Biology Skincare products.

THE GLOW FACTOR

For Ashley Jackson, founder of Monaco Glow, achieving radiance starts with healthy skin fundamentals. “Getting the glow starts with healthy skin. Stay hydrated, exfoliate weekly, moisturize daily and never skip SPF. Prepping your skin properly is the secret to a smooth, radiant glow—especially before a spray tan.”

Jackson’s mission at Monaco Glow is to provide a luxurious and comforting experience that helps clients feel like their best selves. “Our skincare products are organic, glowy, shimmery, hydrating and specifically formulated to prep, protect and elevate your experience. They’re designed not only to nourish your skin but also to amplify your natural beauty,” she says. “I love our coffee scrubs as an exfoliator, the roll-on shimmer oil for convenience and gorgeous shimmer and a daily moisturizer to extend an airbrush tan.”

Jackson notes that hydrated “glass skin,” skin minimalism and clean, multifunctional products are trending with her clients. “I’ve found that women want fewer products that can do more while promoting healthy skin and enhancing their glow.”

THE TAKEAWAY

Whether you’re building a daily routine, scheduling in-office treatments or simplifying your product lineup, spring offers the perfect opportunity to reset your skincare approach. Listen to your skin, invest in quality products and professional guidance and watch your natural radiance emerge as the season blooms.
