Kim Coleman, a mother, wife and stylist, is also the owner of Vanity Salon. She began her journey as an entrepreneur in 2006 with her first location in Mount Pleasant and recently opened a second location in West Ashley.
This busy, hardworking business owner juggles the demands of her personal life with her work life while maintaining a reputation as one of the top wedding stylists in Charleston. Vanity Salon’s work has been featured in such publications as People Magazine, More and Charleston Weddings. The salon provides hair and makeup for more than 200 weddings per year.
Coleman attributes her success to her amazing staff and her love for the beauty industry. Vanity Salon has a large staff, with 17 current employees and growing.
“As a mother and a stylist behind the chair myself, I understand the demands of balancing work life and personal life for my stylists,” Coleman shared. “My employees are my work family, and I want them to have enough time to spend with their families.”
This commitment to compassion for her employees’ needs has been Coleman’s recipe for success.
“We are all equals in the salon, and we have a warm and welcoming environment,” Coleman stated.
Any day you walk into Vanity Salon, you may find Coleman answering the phones, sweeping the floor and working behind the chair. It is the hands-on approach that showcases her work ethic and philosophy of equality in the salon environment.
“We are not like a doctor visit that people may dread; we are the place people come to look good and feel good,” Coleman explained. “Vanity Salon is a full-service salon with the goal of being the very best part of your day.”
Vanity Salon also believes in giving back to the community, and Coleman herself often stays on the go, traveling and educating in various locales. Through educating others on techniques and product knowledge, Coleman feels that she stays on top of her profession as a stylist.
This year also marks the opening of the blow-out bar inside of Vanity Salon – making it truly the ultimate one-stop-shop for all services, including pageants, weddings and other events.
“We also opened our second location in West Ashley. Who knows where we will go from here?” Coleman mused.
From her ability to multitask as a leader, mother, wife and friend to her employees, there is no limit to Vanity Salon’s potential.
