For over 30 years, Windi McKeithan’s life has been intertwined with the historic hub of Mount Pleasant commerce: Coleman Boulevard.
In her early 20s, McKeithan, a resident of Mount Pleasant, took a job at The Ragamuffin Children’s Boutique and Stride Rite as the manager/buyer and “fell in love with the children’s business.” A year later, she bought the two stores, and a year after that, she opened a shop next door and named it Radical Rags for older kids, a store for 7-to-16-year-olds, with top trending brands and styles “that kids love” and are age appropriate. The store also offers juniors’ and ladies’ apparel.
McKeithan’s ingredients for such impressive growth and sustained success?
“We love our customers, and we love what we do,” she said. “Being here for a long time has allowed me to build relationships with my customers. They know that they can come here and I, or my tremendous team, will help them find what they are looking for. The store has everything they need from head to toe, tiny to teen.”
An example of McKeithan’s involvement with the community was when Hurricane Hugo devastated the area in 1989. She re-opened her store almost immediately and sold all merchandise at half price to help those affected by the storm begin to pull their lives back together.
One of the first businesswomen on Coleman Boulevard, McKeithan said, “God placed me here for a reason, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to serve my loyal customers for so long.”
