Being surrounded by strong women throughout her developmental years and witnessing power in numbers left lasting impressions on Rhetta Cloyd.
“With each and every step I have taken, I have strived to be the leader that I always wanted to have myself,” said the co-owner and chief marketing officer of Charleston-based In the Black Marketing and Media Consulting. “I try to be someone who sees each person for their abilities, makes room for them to shine, empowers them versus competing with them and creates a space that breeds greatness.”
Having the best idea gets you a “seat at the table,” said Cloyd, but having an execution strategy that works keeps you there. “It has been my professional mission to eliminate what I call ‘marketing malpractice’ — selling tactics and strategies that don’t provide measurable results.”
Cloyd relishes the opportunity to help others share their stories and make an impact on their bottom line. “Making a difference in a person’s life and financial future are why my team and I jump out of bed each morning.”
She said her company will grow by remaining “perpetual students of our craft.” She added, “We are consistently learning, investigating, practicing, measuring and implementing tactics and strategies that reduce business owners’ risks, while also setting them up for high returns.”
