Vedrana Gjivoje is one busy, focused and determined lady. A veterinarian, she also has more than 10 years’ experience in yoga and is now the proud owner and running the first-ever franchise for the popular Powerflow Yoga (PFY) studios.

Two locations are now open in Mount Pleasant, and Gjivoje has handled it all with an admirable, calm approach. The location at 1110-4 Park West Blvd. is brand-new and created from the ground up, while the location at 1973 Riviera Drive in Seaside Farms has been rebranded from a former yoga studio.

There are nine PFY studios located in New Jersey, and, when Gjivoje and her husband decided to vacate “the snow and potholes” up north, she found herself not only caring and providing healthy choices for her four-footed friends — but for her two-footed friends as well. Gjivoje assured that anyone can do yoga and confirmed that the Mount Pleasant studios offer classes for novices through advanced.

Vinyasa flow hot yoga (sometimes referred to as flow yoga) is defined as “a style of yoga characterized by stringing postures together so that you move from one to another, seamlessly, using breath.” Further, heated vinyasa yoga “is ideally practiced in a room heated to approximately 80 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.” At PFY, the temperature “tops off between 95 and 99 degrees,” according to Gjivoje. You can expect a flowing class that contains pranayama — the regulation of the breath through certain techniques and exercises.

Gjivoje relayed, “So where’s the magic in hot yoga? It’s your one-stop fitness and wellness shop: sweat, strengthen, stretch, balance, breathe, cardio, discipline, mindfulness, peace. Where else can you go to get all those things all at once, under one roof? Nowhere else.”

PFY studios provide blocks and straps, changing rooms, bathrooms and showers (but bring your own shower towel); you can also rent Manduka yoga mats, purchase bottled water or hand towels, and, after a fulfilling session, you can stroll around the retail area at both locations, which carry the hottest yoga clothing, accessories and more.

Additionally, once you are feeling both stronger and calmer, consider the fun available at one of the PFY retreats — beautiful destinations where all the details such as accommodations, meals and reservations are handled for you so all you have to do is focus on “relaxation, rejuvenation and self-reflection.”

Namaste to all.
