CW: When did you decide to go into the business you are in?
“My business started as a hobby. First, hand-painting children’s clothing and gift items, then I switched to applique. I did pop-up shows in homes, local craft shows and then advanced to holiday markets, etc., across the country before establishing a permanent brick and mortar location.”
CW: How do you find your passion?
“A love for fashion was always there, but after having my daughter, I focused on children’s clothing and found a passion creating a collection of clothing, gifts and accessories. While I no longer design my personal line, I am able to collaborate with some of my manufacturers to do some designs exclusively for Southern Belles.”
CW: What inspires you?
“I think my customers inspire me greatly because they appreciate the effort that goes into creating a shopping experience for them each time they grace my doors. I’m so truly grateful each time a customer walks in. To think of all the other places they could have gone, and they came to shop with me —that warms my heart and inspires me to strive to be the best of the best for them.”
CW: Tell us about how you grew up and what or who shaped you into the woman you are today.
“I grew up in the country. My dad was a farmer and also had a local small business that he and my mother operated. Their hard work and dedication set an example of good work ethics for me. I saw how well my dad treated the people he employed. My mother was always my inspiration, as I was constantly amazed at how many things she could do well. She is still my inspiration, as she will be 100 years old this October.”
